POSITION OVERVIEW: Controller:

The Controller will serve as a financial leader in the organization, responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and compliance functions. This role ensures the clinic’s financial health, transparency, and sustainability, supporting our mission to deliver high-quality healthcare to LGBTQ+ communities. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Controllers are expected to:
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger. 
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP. 
  • Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections. 
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, federal/state regulations, and grant requirements. 
  • Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors. 
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting. 
  • Advise the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial strategy and sustainability. 
  • Provide financial analysis to support programmatic and operational decision-making. 
  • Collaborate with development staff to track grant funding, donor contributions, and restricted funds. 
  • Supervise accounting staff and foster a culture of accountability and inclusivity. 
  • Implement and maintain financial systems, policies, and procedures. 
  • Train staff on financial processes and compliance requirements. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred). 


Work Experience:
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role. 
  • Experience in nonprofit financial management and accounting strongly preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit compliance, and audit practices. 
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. 
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and serving LGBTQ+ communities. 

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License or other form of Real ID (required).
  • Must be able to obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card during background check process.
